Have you ever been scrolling through your feed and thought, “Geez, I really should book a photoshoot and get some new photos.”
As a photographer, I’ll be the first person to say. YES, get in here, boo!
But as a brand strategist, I’d tell you to pause. Here’s why.
Booking a photoshoot simply because you need fresh content can actually cost you clients (not to mention the cost of your shoot).
I know that sounds backwards, but hear me out.
If you don’t know who you’re talking to or what action you want people to take after they see your photos, you’re just filling your feed.
The photos might be beautiful, but they won’t necessarily help you grow your business.
Last week, we actually rescheduled a client’s shoot for that exact reason. We didn’t have a strategy session to map out the goals of the session, so we moved it back a week.
If we had gone ahead with the shoot, I’m confident we would’ve created beautiful images. But that wasn’t the goal.
The goal was to tell a story that would resonate with this client’s ideal audience in a relatable and impactful way. Photos alone cannot do that.
I’d rather put the brakes on a session before having you invest in something that doesn’t move the needle in your business. That is why we include a strategy session for all our full-length photoshoots.
Before we nail down a location or talk outfits, we spend an hour together getting clear on your goals.
- What are you launching?
- Which offers are you trying to sell?
- Who are you trying to attract?
- Where will these images actually be used?
Those answers shape everything we create together.
Because the best brand photos do more than just fill your feed. They help people understand what you do, why it matters, and why they should trust you.
So before you book your next photoshoot, ask yourself one question:
What do I need these photos to do for my business?
If you don’t have a clear answer yet, that’s exactly where we start. Start your strategy here.
